The smell is strong. What do you do first?
- Open a window and search for the leak Staying inside to look for the leak keeps you in the danger zone.
- Get everyone out without touching switches Safer choice Leave immediately. A spark from a switch or phone can ignite the gas.
- Light a match to see if gas is escaping An open flame can cause an explosion.
Step 2
You are outside now. What next?
- Call the gas emergency line from outside Safer choice Call from a safe distance and keep others away until you are told it is safe.
- Go back in to switch off the boiler Re-entering puts you back in the risk zone.
